FAQs

Q?

Who Are Golly Galoshes?

A.

We are a British company by design and manufacture. Golly Galoshes is built on a lifelong passion for horses and riding. Our MD and designer has even ridden at Badminton! You can read more HERE.

Q?

What’s the difference between Golly Galoshes and those fluorescent leg wraps I’ve seen?

A.

Our patented award-winning design is the only gaiter of its kind designed and made here in the UK to successfully protect your horses' boots, bandages and first aid dressings from dust, dirt, mud and water. Anatomically designed to fit over your horse's legwear. They have been designed to protect and cover whatever is underneath, as opposed to being a wrap that won't keep everything clean and dry. Did we also mention that our gaiters are tried and trusted by equestrians worldwide and also used by top professional riders? British Multi-Gold Medallist MBE Paralympic dressage rider Natasha Baker uses our gaiters for hacking, first aid and to help keep her horses' boots and bandages clean and dry.

Q?

I’m Thinking About Buying Golly Galoshes For Hacking To Beat The Mud, For Visibility On The Road & For Schooling – Are Golly Galoshes Really Multi-Functional?

A.

Absolutely, Our MD had been using her 'Kitchen Table Made' version on her horses for about 20 years before they were made commercially. The essence of purpose back then was the same as it is today (with a little more advanced fabric technology of course) to keep boots dry, clean and comfortable for the horse and to help prevent grit and sand getting under the boot.  Our fluorescent fabric is reflective, and all our gaiters feature a reflective strip for extra visibility. Easy to care for, they are waterproof and breathable, so ideal for use all year round. For those wishing to use them out hacking we have our fluorescent collection, for those who use them in the school, competition warm-up and at shows, our Black, Navy and Patriotic are extremely popular choices. Our customers also find them really useful in lessons and lunging sessions under artificial light as that reflective strip shows off the horses' stride. And don't forget their added advantage of being a tremendous First Aid addition for keeping leg dressings and medical gadgets clean and dry.

Q?

Which Colour Is Best For Visibility?

A.

Apart from it being a personal choice, the orange and yellow are both extremely visible. Our most popular colour for the autumn/winter months is Orange while some customers prefer Yellow in the summer, both will give you a strong visual presence.  Our popular Pink Fluro Gaiter is also popular with riders who hack to their lessons and like to look fashionable during them, as well as being practical and having excellent visibility on the roads.

Q?

I’m Worried My Horse’s Legs will Over Heat – Are They Really Breathable?

A.

Yes, the fabric we use is fully breathable, in extremely hot temperatures there may be slight dampness to the bandage or boot lining - but this is rare and may also be connected to the less advanced 'breathability' properties in your choice of boots and bandages.

Q?

What Size Should I Buy?

A.

If you refer to our helpful size guide HERE, you can easily find which size will fit your horse best. If your horse is outside of these standard sizes, it may be possible for us to make you a bespoke pair. Email us HERE if you have any further questions. The Golly's team are always delighted to help you.

Q?

How Do I Care For My Golly Galoshes?

A.

Golly Galoshes are so much easier to care for than your boots and bandages, and you can look forward to less horse laundry with these 'tack box heroes'! After use, leave to dry naturally (not on a radiator), brush the mud and debris off, should there be staining from algae or some other substance, simply wash them as per the full instructions enclosed with your gaiters.

No more constant wash/dry cycle for your boots and bandages! EVEN in mid-winter!

Q?

I Don’t Put Boots Or Bandages On My Horse – Can I Use Golly Galoshes Without Anything?

A.

Golly Galoshes are designed to keep boots, bandages and wound dressings clean and dry. Created to protect,  we do not recommend use without these additions.

Q?

They Cost The Same As A Pair Of Decent Horse Boots. Is It Worth it?

A.

We have customers all over the globe (numerous ones from word of mouth and recommendations through forums, reviews etc.) ranging from happy hackers through to top Olympic riders, that couldn't live without their Golly Galoshes! Golly Galoshes are proudly made in England and made from the best fabric, incorporating the best zip on the market, and are a quality product, just like your 'decent' horse boots!  If you look after our gaiters they last years. Since launching Golly Galoshes back in 2009, we have only received two pairs back (a protruding nail from the hoof damaged both). They will also extend the life and looks of those 'decent' boots too!

Q?

My Horse Has A Medical Gadget/Dressing Which Is Not Waterproof – Can I Use Golly Galoshes On These?

A.

Our gaiters have been used both in the stable and out during remedial turnout with much success. For these situations, we always advise putting a thin stable bandage over the dressing or gadget and then adding our gaiter. Taking into consideration the weather conditions is, of course, advisable as while the gaiter is entirely waterproof, water can run down the legs and into the dressing if not positioned correctly in wet weather. Remember to purchase a size which will accommodate the size of the dressing/gadget, keeping them snug but not overly tight. When correctly done up, one should just about be able to get your little finger under the elastic gusset. The design and machining work on the top and bottom of our gaiters means that in our experience, we have not had any issue ever with rubbing - even on horses with sensitive skin issues. As with any medical situation, we recommend discussing with your vet before use.
